Marcus James Henderson grew up in Brevard, NC. His first gig was at 15 in Greenville, SC, playing at Vince Perone’s Forum with the Frankie Lester Big Band. From there he played with everyone from Steve Alan to Ringling Brothers, although his favorite assignments have always been original acts. The most frequent band he’s been in (11 years now) is King Johnson from Atlanta GA. He started with MTB playing sessions at Muscadine Studio for Paul Hornsby, when he got the call to play on Chris Hicks’ “Dog Eat Dog World,” and the rest is history! With MTB, he covers flute, sax, keys, and some vocals. He currently lives in Macon, GA with his wife and son.
Have always been proud of you son and continue to be. Your fan for many, many years!
I am honored and proud to be your friend. You are so talented.
Great show last night at the State Theater in Falls Church!
Hope you all can make back this way again before too long.
My sister, Julie, is still on cloud nine for having been on stage with you all!
DEAR MR HENDERSON....I JUIST STUMBLED ON AN ODD THING I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOUR NAME WAS DOUG GRAY...I WAS TO SEE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND MANY YEARS AGO...AND YOU CAME ON STAGE AND PLAYED THE FLUTE AND SAX...I ALWAYS REMEMBERED THAT I THOUGHT YOU WERE VERY TALENTED....I WAS LISTENING TO SOMETHING TODAY THAT MADE ME THINK OF THAT...
I HOPE YOU CONTINUE TO INSPIRE OTHER PEOPLE LIKE YOU DID ME....
after seeing you at the greeley colorado concert, we were blown away with your performance
what a great show and what a very talented guy you are.
It was great to meet you at Gruene Hall. You have a solid voice and are a perfect addition to a multi-talented band. We never get tired of the songs. See you next time you're in Texas.
You ROCK! Caught the show last night at the Del Mar Fair.
Please say you are playing again here soon in So Cal!
Have a great summer
Terrific performance at Wildwood Springs !! You stole the show, which is really hard with this band !! Amazing.
I want to Thank You for a fantastic show Saturday night in Watseka. After seeing 16 prior MTB shows starting in 1975 in Lincoln Nebraska, while attending Creighton University in Omaha, this was a special show.
I've been waiting for an all ages show somewhere near Chicago to take my son Tim (12 Yrs) We drove down from Downers Grove, IL. and you did not dissappoint!! Starting with a Great Show, to humble autograph signing, and conversation by the bus. You are an awesome Flutist & Sax Player, and your solos were reninicent of Jerry Eubanks for sure. When I heard you sing "Take the Highway", I knew you had MTB in you. Tim, and I, will never forget it!!
God Bless You Always!!!

Awesome show in Watseka! I have never seen anyone play the flute like you do, not only that buy you have great pipes as well. Simply Amazing!! Thanks for putting on a great show!
I wanted to let Marcus know that your musicianship was truly amazing last night at the Uptown theater concert in Napa. though I had to brave 2 agonizing hours of bay area rush hour traffic to get from SJ to napa, once I settled into my seat and your mates started to play it was all worth it. Especially you Marcus, what an unbelievably talented (probably from years of hard work as well.....) person you are. I thought, though all the guys were good, you and Chris Hicks really made the night especially memorable. I will try to come and see the band again later this year when you guys play at that Casino in Carson, ca.
peace be with you and your family,
All I can say is AMAZING show tonight in Ocean City NJ tonight! So much talent in one band. Very impressive!
When we walked out into the hallway of our hotel room Friday night at the Orleans Casino, I knew there was a good reason I wanted to don my MTB t-shirt hours before the show was to start. There at the far end of the hall were Doug and Marcus. They saw me and said "nice shirt!" I almost fell over. MTB has been my favorite band since the 70's when I saw you at the Starlight Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Emily at first thought it was just somebody commenting on one of my various politically incorrect shirts, and didn't realize who it was until we reached them midpoint in the hallway, when I started falling over myself in awe of the talent standing before me. She told me later that when she realized who it was she was dumbstruck and felt she started prattling on like a schoolgirl. You guys chatted with us for what seemed quite a few minutes, and when we told you we were there for the show the following night, you told us to be down by the entrance to the showroom at about 7:00 and if there were any seats available you would get us in. We did, and you did, and between the 2 shows and talking with you guys you absolutely made our weekend! You were at the NASCAR races Saturday, and must have had a good time (as you confirmed Marcus when we saw you again Saturday after the show on our way back up to the rooms) because you guys all seemed more animated than usual and just rocked the house down! What a great show! You guys were nice as could be to us, and just seem to be as down to earth as anyone can possibly be. Thank you for a great weekend! You made my year. Awesome talent. Emily loves you!
