Dear Doug and family,
This “The Rev.” from CT. I received an email this afternoon with word of Renee’s sudden passing. I am posting this prayerful note to express my personal condolences to you and your family. Please accept my personal prayer and those of my family for you and your family as you move into the healing days ahead.
Gracious God, the one we loved is now with You. We can say that, not knowing "how" or "where," but say it because it makes no sense that so rich and full a life would come to an abrupt end ... except for memories. Still, we are bereft for she is not with us. We listen to all the clichés of our friends, spoken to console us: "She is past any pain." "She is in heaven," whatever that means. We listen and somehow we are not consoled. Our grief feels selfish. We want to feel her touch and hear her voice and see her smile. We are confident she is with you, and we are just as confident, O Lord, You understand how it is with us. We cannot help recalling times we might have been gentler and softer. We wish we could live some hours over. We would like to say "we love you" just one more time. These things we must now accept.
"Time heals all things," they say. we do not believe Time does anything. You, O God, are Healer and Helper. You can heal us in time, help us through the lonely days and long nights. You can give us renewed enthusiasm for going on and entering into life once more.
"Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." We believe that. But right now we grieve; we hurt; we are bereft. Thanks be to God who understands us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!!!
Please accept my deepest personal prayers. Know that you can all on me at any time. I look forward to seeing you the next time you are in CT. Till then may God be with you.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. Karl H. Duetzmann, aka “The Rev.”
Pastor, The United Church of Christ in Devon

Dear Mr. Gray, I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your wife. I am aware of all the tragidies in your life. I have dealt with my own losses through the help of you and the music from MTB. I have your tamborine signed by you in a glass case that a late friend built for my wife as a surprise for me.(you gave the tamborine to my wife by the way).I have on tape of you singing happy birthday to my grandson while you are hugging my wife and it means the world to us as are grandson is very ill. I wish I could say or do something that would help ease your pain but I know that it is impossible. People say that things happen for a reason and I don't kmow if thats true because when pain is that deep it is very hard to think or buy in to that death happens for a reason. We have to have faith in god and know we will be "Together Forever" some day. God Bless You and family. Todd Thorpe-64 birchwood drive-northford ct 06472

Jill 07/20/09 04:01:51 PM

In the 1970's as a child, my crazy Uncle Todd would sing songs to me like "Heard in a Love Song" and oh so many more. So, when I hear a Marshall Tucker song, I immediately think of Todd & his first wife (who passed away in 1998). It was a dream come true to sit in the State Theatre in State College, PA on July 9 with my crazy uncle and watch The Marshall Tucker band right in front of us. Todd got to come down and meet you with Richard Sleigh (the opening act who is my son's guitar teacher). That was an absolute thrill for Todd and I thank you for giving him the autographed photo. (He saw you and caught a tamobrine in 1977 at the Clearfield Fair). It was evident that Doug is in a lot of pain (and rightfully so) and I felt very blessed that he was willing to come out and share those raw emotions with us b/c music is a sanctuary for me as I am sure it is for many. I know that everyone in that audience is rooting for Doug. One guy who was in our group just lost his best friend to suicide in June and I watched his face as Doug shared some of his story with us. Being able to talk about it and do your thing musically is the only way you will get through it. The concert was phenomenal and probably one of the best I have ever seen. You have top notch musicians (Marcus was WOW!) and I want to thank you for an evening I will never forget. My thoughts and prays are with Doug and his family. Take care!

Bruce 08/04/09 08:32:51 PM

Doug and Family: Sending our deepest sympathies for your loss. The Marshall Tucker Band was a huge part of my life back in 1973 and 1974, and it still is today. May she R.I.P. Sincerely, the Whitehouse's in Corona, Arizona.

Dear Doug
My heart goes out to you and your family. I will remember your wife and you in my prayers. Thank you for all of your music and singing over the years. It has always cheered me up (at least, since 1974). Please, take care!

Dear Doug,
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. All of the
family is deeply saddened by the loss of your dear wife. We are all feeling very helpless, not being able to be with you, and so out of touch. Would you please call Norma, so that we'll be able to contact you? Thanks, Doug. God Bless you. Paula
